We depart from your accommodation and travel to Casablanca after a brief city tour. In Casablanca, you will see the Hassan II Mosque, the biggest mosque west of Mecca, and enjoy the “Cornish” seashore. After that, we’ll travel to Casablanca, Morocco’s capital, and then to Fes, where we’ll spend the night in a riad in the heart of the medina
Explore the city of Fes, the oldest imperial city, the site of the world’s first university going back to the 9th century, and one of the most intact medieval cities in existence. It appears to be stuck in a time warp, somewhere between the Middle Ages and the current era, surrounded by massive defensive walls. Visit to the historic Medina, Quaraouine University, Medersa Attarine, the Kingdom Palace, the Ben Denane synagogue, and the souks. Stay at a riad for the night.
Today, we drive to Ifrane, Morocco’s “Switzerland.” We make a halt in Azrou, a Berber town amid the cedar forest. We proceed to Midelt. Following lunch, you will journey to Merzouga via Errachidia and Erfoud. You will pass via the spectacular Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorges, with views of the High Atlas plateau. We’ll drive through the lush Ziz Valley, pausing for magnificent vistas all the way to Erfoud and Rissani. You’ll arrive at Merzouga in the late afternoon. In Merzouga, spend the night in a riad/hotel.
By 4×4, explore the Erg Chebbi desert near Merzouga. We will go to the Khamlia settlement, which is well-known for its Gnawa musicians. We will visit a Berber Nomad household in the Sahara desert and go to a souk. We return to Merzouga and prepare for a camel ride in the desert. We will be led by an expert desert camel guide as we explore Merzouga’s sand dunes. We will eat dinner at Sahara camp and listen to Berber music before spending the night in desert tents in Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi desert.
Today you will see a beautiful dawn over the dunes before returning to your hotel or riad. Then we travel to Ouarzazate, passing through Kalaat Magouna and Rose Valley. We’ll go to the Todgha Gorge. In Ouarzazate, we have supper and spend the night.
We go for the Atlas Mountains after breakfast at a riad or hotel. We will travel via the Pink Valley and the Skoura Oasis before arriving at the famed Atlas Film studio and the most magnificent kasbah in Morocco, Ait Benhaddou. We pass via Tizi-n-Tichka on our way to Marrakech for supper and an overnight stay
Take a guided tour of Marrakech. The Saadien mausoleum, the Palaces of El Bahia and El Badi, as well as the Ben Youssef Coranique School, the garden of Majorelle house of the famous fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent, which is noted tropical atmosphere bougainvillea, hibiscus and bamboo, and several cactus. Menara and the Koutoubia tower will be visible. In the afternoon, you will explore the Jemaa el-Fnaa plaza and the souk-market lanes. In Jemaa el-Fnaa, dinner is provided.
