ITINERARY FOR ATLAS VALLEYS & BERBER VILLAGES TREK 4 DAYS

Prepare yourself before beginning your trip and go to TiziMzik pass (2485m), which gives a wonderful view of Imlil valley. Combine wonderful Marrakech with breathtaking landscape, gorgeous high passes, lovely lakes, and appealing Berber settlements.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH –IMI OUGHLAD –TIZI N'TACHTE –TIZIANE

Early morning departure from Marrakech through the Moulay Brahim gorge and upper valleys to reach the higher foothills of the western high atlas mountains and our trailhead of imi oughlad (1450m) with the jbel toubkal, at 4167m the highest peak in North Africa, aglzim 3650m and aksoual 38847m looming ahead of us. We disembark from our vehicle and meet up with the berber muleteer team. We set off in a north-westerly direction for a 2-hour acclimatization hike up switchback mule tracks, passing through cornfields, woods, pine and juniper to the tizn'tachete (2000m), where we will pause to look back down on the imlikl and ait oussaden valleys before continuing for another half hour to imi n'ifri and our field picnic. Hike for roughly two and a half hours south-west along a dirt route to Assif n' ait oussaden and the red clay terraced town of Tiziane (1750 m) for our bivouac or gite lodging.

DAY 2: TIZZIANE - TIZI N'TAGHRHOURTE - D'KNT

After breakfast, we will begin our hike up the Assif n'ait oussaden valley, passing through the wallnut groves, up to Tizin'taghrhourte (1995m), and through a rare almost flat stretch to Assaka spring, where we will stop for our field picnic in the midst of awesome silence after about 2 and a half hours of relatively easy walking. Our afternoon journey brings us down through the forest boundaries until we reach the berber settlement of D'knt (1870m) or agouns n Assoul, where we will eat and spend the night in a bivouac or gite.

DAY 3: D'KNT - TIZI N'TAGDALTE - TIZI OUSSEM

We began our three-hour journey up through walnut woods and maize and barley fields to welcome the numerous sheep and goatherders - and women and children hunched over with 20kg bundles of faggots and dried herbs. We will travel the tizin'tagdalte to the descent amid the juniper trees till we reach a tiny spring nestled among the trees, where we will halt for our lunch. We set off down winding higher slopes paths for about 3 hours to reach a little river at the entrance of the valley of Assif n'ait oussaden. From here, we approach the town of Tizi oussem (1850m), then ascend to the summer village of Tamsoult, where we will camp or stay in a gite.

DAY 4: AZIB TAMSOULT-- TIZI M'ZZIK - IMLIL

Trek to Azib Tamsoulte's little waterfall before returning to cross the Tizi 'n Mzik pass (2,500m). We reach the main Toubkal valley at Imlil (1,900m), where we will eat lunch before continuing on to Marrakech.End of our 2023 Atlas Mountains Trekking.
