ITINERARY FOR CLIMB MOUNT TOUBKAL: 3-DAY TREK

Climb North Africa's highest mountain in 3 days. The excursion starts and ends in Marrakech and includes transportation to and from Imlil. We will trek with an English-speaking guide, a native cook, and mules. It's a difficult walk rather than a climb, and anyone in excellent shape can do it.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH - IMLIL -- AZIB N TAMSOULT

Transfer from Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains: 1:30-minute drive to Imlil (1740m), a well-known starting place for climbing expeditions. Hike the region by hiking up to the Tizi-n-Mezzik mountain pass (2489m). Enjoy the breathtaking vista of the Imlil region and the Azzaden valley. Our cook cooked a field picnic in the middle of a jeneper forest. After lunch, take a stroll along the Azzaden Valley to the summer town of Tamssoult (2250m). Spend the night at a refuge or a camp. 5 hours of walking.

DAY 2: AZIB N TAMSOULT - AGELZIM MOUNTAIN PASS - TOUBKAL BASE CAMP

Today comprises a pretty strenuous ascent out of the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge through the Ighouliden waterfalls and the 3,560m Aguelzim Mountain pass. Lunch will be served with breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountain Range. Overnight in the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut or Mouflon), where you'll most likely share a bunk room with other hikers attempting Toubkal the next morning. 7 hours of walking.

DAY 3: TOUBKAL BASE CAMP - TOUBKAL SUMMIT - TOUBKAL BASE CAMP - IMLIL - MARRAKECH

Early start for the trek to Toubkal (4,167m), from whence you'll enjoy great views of the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert if the clouds cooperate, then a lengthy journey down down via the refuge and the well-worn trail back to Imlil. This is a fairly long day of trekking, involving 900m up and nearly 2,500m back down to Imlil! In Marrakech, you will usually be left off around 5pm.
